This two day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider.

This course has been developed by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA England). It provides the skills, knowledge and understanding of first aid for mental health and how to effectively support those experiencing distress.
This empowers both individuals and communities to understand the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and how best to support themselves and those around them in recovery. It will help reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health.

This Mental Health First Aid course is delivered by a Mental Health First Aid Instructors who are registered by MHFA England to deliver the accredited courses.  The Mental Health First Aid Instructors course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

About Online Mental Health First Aid

The new online version of our course delivers the same learning outcomes of the popular ‘face-to-face’ Adult MHFA Two Day course in an accessible and flexible online format. The course is structured around a blend of individual learning and four live sessions.

Learners will be required to participate mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan. Everyone who completes the course will get a MHFA manual, workbook and a certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider

Session 1: Day One AM

  • Introduction to the Online Mental Health First Aid course and the Online Learning Hub (course over view, safety procedure, attending live sessions, and completing individual learning activities)

Session 2: Day One PM

Individual learning (2 hour)

  • Activity 7: What is depression?
  • Activity 8: Risk factors for depression
  • Activity 9: Mental Health First Aid for depression
  • Activity 10: Introduction to suicide

Live Session (2hrs 20mins)

  • Recap of individual learning on depression
  • Prevalence of suicide
  • Suicide, substance misuse and dual diagnosis
  • Analyse the impact of suicidal feelings
  • Recap of ALGEE and risk factors for suicide
  • Explain Mental Health First Aid action plan 1 for suicide
  • 10 minute break
  • Explain non-judgemental listening, Empathy video
  • Practice using ALGEE in case study scenarios
  • Review of ALGEE for suicide and depression
  • Self-care

Session 3: Day Two AM

Individual learning (2 hour)

  • Activity 15: What is self-harm?

Live Session (2 hours)

  • Recap of individual learning of anxiety
  • Recap of the five basic steps of ALGEE for anxiety
  • Explain action 1 for anxiety
  • How to support someone who is having a panic attack
  • Explain crisis first aid
  • Practice action 2: non-judgemental listening
  • 10 minute break
  • Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan for anxiety
  • Recap of ALGEE for anxiety
  • Explain cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Recap of eating disorders and self-harm
  • Case study for eating disorders and self-harm
  • Review ALGEE for eating disorders and self-harm

Session 4: Day Two PM

  • Activity 18: What are psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder?
  • Activity 19: Risk factors for psychosis

  • Activity 21: Helpful and unhelpful responses
  • Workbook Activity 10: My action plan for using Mental Health First Aid (completed after live session)

Live Session (1hrs 55mins)

  • Review of individual learning on psychosis
  • Explain the development of symptoms of psychosis

  • Group discussion about MHFA Australia psychosis video
  • Case study activity using Mental Health First Aid action plan for psychosis

How much will it cost?

The MHFA Two Day course takes place over two non-consecutive full days at a cost of £240 per person

What's the refund policy?

If the workshop is cancelled by Edu-c8 Inspired Training, you will be offered a place on a course on an alternative date. If a suitable alternative date cannot be arranged, your payment will be refunded in full.
In the event of a participant’s non-attendance or cancellation within 30 working days before the beginning of the course, the payment is non-refundable subject to our discretion.
